The South African economy is one with enormous potential across a broad base in commerce and industry. Over the years, South Africa has been renowned for its often leading edge capabilities in various sectors, including manufacturing, mining, the petrochemical industry, agriculture, pharmaceutical, the medical and healthcare industry, ICT and the financial services industry, amongst others. South Africa also bore the consequences of the 2008 global meltdown with resultant diminished growth; coupled to a temporarily troubled socio-political dynamic in South Africa for a couple of years, economic performance was dampened. The socio-political dynamic is improving significantly under recently appointed new leadership and a business-friendly environment in which accelerated economic growth will eventuate, prevails. South Africa will re-establish itself as an attractive and competent investment destination for both foreign direct investment as well as financial markets investment.
